You can narrow your search by adding multiple words. 2007 in the search field and your results will include all pictures taken in that year. Picasa will also search for your word in the Folder name where a picture lives, or any album that includes the photo, or tags or even the camera name that took the picture.ĭates: you can enter a year, e.g. Other SearchesĬaptions and filenames aren’t the only thing that can be found with search. You need to click the ‘Back to View All’ in order to see your complete library again. It will look like I have no pictures except those of beaches. If I search for ‘beach’ my library view will now consist of the few hundred beach pictures. ![]() Let’s say that, in my thousands of photos, I have a few hundred with the word ‘beach’ somewhere identifying them. It will appear that all your other pictures are gone. When Picasa finds matches, it filters the pictures in the library to just those that match. I didn’t have to know that, it found all pictures with the word Stonehenge in the filename or caption. Notice that it even finds that we were there 2 times, once in 2004 and again in 2010. Since I entered captions on all the good pictures of Stonehenge, my search will produce results. (video: Searching for Pictures) Picasa will instantly match whatever you type by looking at captions, folder names and descriptions, file names, tags, people, albums, and more. I just type Stonehenge into the search box, next to the magnifying glass in the upper right corner. Let’s say I want to see a picture of that cool Stonehenge place we visited in Washington State. I keep most of my 40,000+ pictures on an external hard drive (video: Move Folders of Pictures to an External Drive), but they all show up in Picasa’s Library so I can view any digital picture I’ve ever taken as long as I can find it! Although we would really like for Flickr to offer a more consolidated way to do this, there are still a handful of third-party options that make life easier. One of the reasons I use captions on all my good pictures (video: Add Captions to your Photos) is so I can find them even years later. #PICASA ALBUMS DOWNLOAD#Of course, if you're logged into Flicker on the Web, you can always download your photos one by one by clicking on the "All Sizes" button above each photo and downloading the high-res version to your desktop. That is apparently not the case and has never been. Flickrįor the six years I have been a member of Flickr, I have been under the impression that paying users (that is, subscribers to Flickr Pro) were able to download all of their own photos from the service in case of an emergency. But if you want to download them an album at a time, you'll still need Picasa on the desktop (go to the Download menu from your album and choose Download to Picasa). ![]() You can still access those photos through the Web, though, either individually or on a per-album basis. #PICASA ALBUMS SOFTWARE#If you use Picasa software on the desktop, just pull down the File menu to Import from Picasa Web Albums, and in the words of Steve Jobs: boom. Thanks to Google's Data Liberation Front, getting a big dump of your photos out of Picasa Web Albums is a laughably easy task. ![]() Some services make this task easier than others, but after finding out on Twitter that numerous readers of ours have wanted to get a mass download of their photos stored online, we figured it would be useful to give a brief how-to for Picasa and Flickr, two of the most popular photo sharing services. Or, what if you've experienced a catastrophic crash at home and you have lost the locally stored copies of all your photos?īackup lecture aside, there are numerous reasons for you to want to pull your photos down from the cloud. But what happens if you decide to just pick up and go to another service? Perhaps Flickr's terms of service got on your last nerve, or Picasa's feature set just isn't enough for you. Photo sharing services are no longer used by a select few-for some Internet users, Flickr and Picasa Web Albums are the place to store and organize photos. ![]()
